Communities around the State are facing a growing need for quality workforce housing development. Legislation authorizing residential TIF programs, enacted in 2019 and amended in 2020, provides an important and workable new tool to cities, towns, and counties in Indiana. This new tool allows local governmental units to use TIF financing (including capturing TIF from new residential assessed value) in their efforts to grow their local housing stock.
This webinar will provide attendees with practical information related to the establishment, monetization and monitoring of Residential TIF Allocation Areas, as well as insights on how Residential TIF impacts local taxing units, including school districts, from a fiscal perspective. Additionally, representatives of Baker Tilly Municipal Advisors and Barnes & Thornburg, who will serve as the panelists for this webinar, will share their experiences with this tool, including evaluating the feasibility of establishing Residential TIF Allocation Areas in different communities and challenges that sometimes have to be overcome in the successful implementation of residential TIF programs.
