RFI Data Workshop

  • Thursday, December 14, 2017
  • 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • The Alexander, 333 S Delaware Street, Indianapolis, IN

Registration is closed

A significant competitive handicap for many communities in their efforts to attract and retain companies is their ability to tell their story with data. Site selection RFIs ask for data on industries, establishments, jobs, wages, unionization, commuting patterns, and demographics. Much of this data exists at a county level (although some is only at the MSA level) and is accessible from public sources at no cost.

Presenter: Nicole Dunn, Chamberlin/Dunn

This workshop will provide attendees with a crash course in navigating five important sources:

  • Hoosiers by the Numbers (Indiana county data)
  • Bureau of Labor Statistics
    • Local Area Unemployment Statistics
    • Occupational Employment Statistics
  • U.S. Census Bureau
    • FactFinder QuickFacts
    • American Community Survey
    • OnTheMap Commuting Patterns
    • County Business Patterns
  • Union Stats
  • StatsIndiana (a portion of BLS and Census data, more quickly available)

Attendees are asked to bring their laptops so they can access the internet and Microsoft Excel.
