IEDA also works hard to promote state and federal policies that support a positive business climate to help existing businesses flourish and attract new businesses to the state. Our advocacy experts help ensure that economic development issues remain on the agenda for our state administrators and elected officials.
The Indiana Economic Development Association, Inc. was formed in 1968 by 16 professional industrial developers to provide continuity to a statewide community development effort. IEDA was incorporated in 1982 as a statewide not-for-profit economic development organization. With each year, IEDA has extended its educational programs and has become more actively engaged in influencing legislation and policies. Since 2005, IEDA has employed a lobbying firm to help IEDA monitor and develop state legislation and to speak out on important issues.
Many past chairs of IEDA continue to remain active in the organization through IEDA’s Past Chair Advisory Committee, which is exclusively comprised of these past chairs. The organization now maintains membership comprised of over 400 members and continues to grow.
